This month saw the release of Christoffer Rudquist’s latest story for Avaunt Magazine. A delve into the Tokyo Subterranean Storm Drainage System.

We caught up with him to find out exactly what it was like to shoot…

What were your first initial thought upon entering the Tokyo Storm Drains?

How far does the rabbit hole goes…?

It is a cool feeling to walk past a big green field, with a little house on it.

Once you go in the staircase just keeps going down.

Then you’re met by this cathedral of concrete. It’s pure awe. If you’ve seen Blade Runner, well this is as close you’ll come to be there…

Describe the experience from both a technical and personal viewpoint…

It was at the time a challenging location to photograph as it is such a high ceiling and there are big columns that has a pattern to them. You want to get the most out of it, so you’ll find you’ll push the camera to its most. This is a location that would be hard without my trusted ARCA SWISS.

I’m packing my bags for Korea now. Special mission for German WIRED, no kiss and tell, but please keep your eyes peeled for DAS DEUTCHE WIRED.
