Describe your photography in 3 words?
Honest, playful, energetic.
How did you get into photography?
I used to photograph my younger sister all the time whilst I was a teenager. I started when I was around 15, we’d walk through muddy fields in winter and I’d pretend to style her with mine / my mum’s wardrobe. I then ended up making a project about my sister, and I realised that photographing people was what I was most drawn to.
What was your first shoot as a photographer?
One of my first shoots in London was photographing a puppeteer for a magazine. The house was full of puppets but some of them were really fragile. I remember thinking it was a bit mad.
Favourite shoot to date and why?
I photographed a series on sisters around the UK for Refinery29 which is a favourite! I met some amazing sisters and had a lot of freedom with the project, which was really nice. We had a lot of fun.
What photographers/artists/places inspire you?
I grew up in Manchester and going back there inspires me – it’s got a different energy to London. I think travelling generally is inspiring too, I think when you’re out of your comfort zone it can be really useful as a photographer!
What is your creative process?
I used to mainly shoot on location but recently I’ve done a lot of work in the studio. I like to get involved in casting on shoots, and a lot of the people I photograph are street cast. Making sure people feel comfortable and there’s a good atmosphere on set is key! I love playing with natural light when I can and colours are always important in my work. I’m currently working on a personal project I’m really excited about. It’s still in the early stages but it would be great to see it in print.
