Drykorn AW17
Bruce Gilden takes to the streets of New York’s Chinatown to capture the DRYKORN AW17 Campaign Shoot.
“Gilden’s enthusiasm for his photographic subjects, which he affectionately calls his “characters”, derives from his childhood as he recalls watching the busy streets of Brooklyn from his window at the second floor of his apartment block.
In 1968 Gilden made the leap into the world of Photography after being inspired by Antonioni’s film “Blow Up”. He bought a cheap Miranda camera and attended some evening classes at the School of Visual Arts. Focusing on a strong character from the very start of his career whether shooting in Coney Island, New York, Haiti, Ireland, Tokyo, India, Russia or England, Gilden leads by Robert Capas Mantra: “If your images aren’t good enough you’re not close enough.”
His confrontational style and use of flash make his images immediately recognisable, both in his signature black and white film and more recently as digital colour photographs. In 1998 Gilden became a member of Magnum Photos. His work throughout the years has often been exhibited and is part of numerous mueseum and private collections. He has published 15 monographs and received a Guggenheim scholarship in 2013.”- DRYKORN MAGAZINE
